Exciting views of the Altfinstermünz

On 2 June 2015, the members of the ‘New Uses’ and ‘Redevelopment and Maintenance’ groups were met by gorgeous weather as they set out to visit the border fortress of Altfinstermünz in Nauders at the foot of the Finstermünzpass
The managers of the castle faced similar challenges to ours a couple of years ago, challenged which now the Museumsverein der Burg Heinfels has to overcome.

After a very warm welcome by Hermann Klapeer (President of the Verein Altfinstermünz), Gerald Jochum and Simone Reimair (Regio L, Regionalmanagement Landeck), the guests were taken on an informative tour of the historic building site. The visit led to the two groups forming detailed ideas and concepts to bring back home, as well as receiving detailed answers thanks to the generous amount of time dedicated to questions. After what was a more than interesting day, the group headed back home in the afternoon armed with views and experiences which will be more than helpful during the implementation of project ’Heinfels Castle’. We would like to thank the people responsible for Burg Finstermünz and are looking forward to repaying the favour one day.

The kestrels at Heinfels Castle have had their nesting place for many years in a niche in the wall of the kitchen tower built in the 14th century. Every year four to five young falcons hatch and start their first flight attempts. For the first time, the falcons can be observed live via a newly installed "falcon cam."

We are officially on winter break since November 6 and will start motivated on May 4, 2023 in the new museum season. In winter we continue to open the castle for groups of 10 people or more by appointment!

Every Thursday evening is the "Long Night" at Heinfels Castle. A special experience for all who want to enjoy the medieval castle at a late hour.

We are really looking forward to the regular start of the new season on May 1st! In addition to our guided time travel through the historical castle, you can also explore the outdoor areas, the platforms and the keep on your own during the panoramic tour. In summer, many events invite you to visit the castle!

The museum opened as early as May, but it was not until July that the travel restrictions fell. By the end of the season on 7 November, 12,372 visitors had been counted at Heinfels Castle.

For the first time, the 10,000-visitor threshold was exceeded in one season. We were very happy about this together with our guests from Germany!
